Painting with Light

July 6, 2020

I have loved doing “light painting” ever since I learned how in high school photography class. But, I haven’t done much of it over the years because it has to be planned out and I usually am a more of a documentary type shooter; finding things in nature, or photographing people in candid situations.
—
I wanted to share a few of my favorite light painting shots here because I am really happy with how they turned out!

Hope you enjoyed these photos!

Night Photography and Weekly Challenge

June 13, 2020

I was inspired to join a weekly photography challenge by a good friend of mine (called 52frames.com). Lately, through the weekly assignments, I have been shooting a lot more night photos, and a lot more staged photos! I am really enjoying the process of creating my art rather than “finding” it as I normally do in nature.
—
I wanted to share a few of my favorite nighttime photos with you.

These are inspired by wanting to create a low-key portrait, though I didn’t submit them all.

The house photo, is my photo inspired by the “50 feet from home” challenge, and was picked in the top 3 for the week! You can check out the gallery here.

The moon was simply because it was a pink supermoon and I wanted to capture it as best I could.

Some weeks give me lots of ideas, while others I just don’t feel like shooting! I suppose that’s like anything in life. If you want a fun way to enjoy your own photography journey, I recommend checking out the website 52frames.com

Hope you enjoyed these photos!

Appreciating The Little Things and Social Distancing

May 12, 2020

Walk around Thetis Lake, BC
—
I never thought this is how I’d be spending my first spring back in Canada after living 7 years in Spain, but here I am.

I can’t say it’s been way too hard, since I know a lot of people have it much worse than me. But life has had it’s challenges with seeing the same 3 people everyday and not having any outside work to keep me busy. Side note, I am grateful for those who continue to work through this pandemic while people like me (non essential workers) “get to” stay home.

Anyway, I had the pleasure of taking a drive out to a park near my house and photographing the forest. I love being in nature, and I do my best to be in the moment and take in my surroundings, which is easier said than done.

Whenever I go out to shoot, I always have one goal: to get ONE good photo worth keeping. Yep, that’s it! Just one. I don’t want to be consumed by the thought that I must get more, more, more… you know the mindset that we are being trained to have by advertisements everywhere – that we should always want more and bigger and better!? Anyway, I just hope that I’m lucky enough to see something besides trees and plants to photograph, and either way, that I get one good shot! Once I get that, I just enjoy my time outside.

These few photos are the shots from my last outing. I did a few self portraits with my camera on a timer, and then I saw this little, but amazingly bright, beetle sitting on my camera bag when I picked it up again. I gently put him (or her) back on the ground and took it’s photo several times with my macro lens.

I think my favourite from the day was the one of the three trees, but by far the most fun was finding and photographing the tiny “rainbow” beetle!

Which one is your favourite? Send me a message and let me know! I love hearing from you 🙂

Stay safe out there and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature if you can!
